Women embrace online poker
Over the years poker has had quite a seedy image of mafia bosses or cowboys in the wild-west shooting each other over somebody cheating and the only women portrayed were normally undesirable characters. Until recently poker was considered immoral so there’s no wonder it’s taken until now for women to embrace online poker.

However times are changing. A recent in-depth study by Poker Players Research (PPR) has estimated that a third of online poker players will be women by 2011. The study surveyed 13,000 regular female online poker players across Europe, North America and Australia. The PPR study results suggest that female participation and activity in the world of online poker is now one of the main areas of interest among online poker sites.
As we all know online poker sites across the internet are battling for new customers continuously with high-profile competition for the male sector of the game but this recent change in female participation offers the various poker sites a new marketing opportunity, particularly because many online poker sites believe that focus on the women’s online poker game will result in greater player loyalty.
Recently there has been a massive rise of female poker stars in the game such as PokerStars pros Vanessa Rousso and Isabelle Mercier and UltimateBets Annie Duke so it seems peculiar that the women’s online poker market has been left relatively untapped until now. One of the few sites who do focus efforts towards women poker players is Ladbrokes Poker. Ladybrokes poker is a women-only section of Ladbrokes poker specifically tailored for women players with female exclusive online poker tournaments and promotions. Until now online poker has been a predominantly male activity but if the results of PPR’s study are accurate, this man’s world could see an influx of women over the next couple of years.
