PokerStars Beat Full Tilt Poker to the World Record

Yesterday saw the clash of the titans as far as online poker sites goes.  Full Tilt Poker saw their 5th birthday record attempt to host the biggest online poker tournament in the world undermined then outdone by PokerStars.   PokerStars beat Full Tilt Poker to the world record with a massive field of 65,000 online poker players.

For the past few weeks Full Tilt Poker have been publicising their world record attempt offering freeroll entry and taking every opportunity to draw in the crowds.  The problem with the record attempt was that the tournament was capped to 50,000 online poker players.  In a ruthless commercial attack on their nearest rivals PokerStars announced their record attempt for the same day capping their number of entrants to 65,000.

The previous record was held by PokerStars with 35,000 players in their tournament last December which had been seen as a massive milestone as far as online poker and poker as a whole was concerned but these new turnouts of 50,000 and 65,000 shows that the record is more than capable of going up again.  It certainly won’t be long before we have a 100,000 turnout for one of these record breaking online poker events and who knows, maybe it’ll be the case that PokerStars beat Full Tilt Poker to the world record again.
