Since the announcement of National Poker Week by the Poker Players Alliance and the launching of the poker petition, the campaign has gained enormous momentum and has made its way on to TV, radio, websites and news pages across the globe.  This initiative is also being supported by Poker Stars, the largest online poker card room in the world, who are hosting the Poker Stars Petition Signers Freeroll.  The benefits of overturning the UIGEA wouldn’t be confined to the US.  If all online poker sites accepted US players the benefits would be experienced by players across the world including you, the UK poker player.  There would be bigger and better tournaments and promotions as online poker sites who don’t currently accept US players attempted to battle for the newly available 10 million plus US online poker players' business.

There has been growing pressure from US poker players regarding the UIGEA since the seizure of over $30 million worth of player’s winnings.  The U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York froze funds transferred by bank wire, in accordance with the 1961 Wire Act and Illegal Gambling Business Act.  Players at two of the biggest online poker sites in the world were affected.  Both Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars players from the US had transfers frozen.  But now that the poker petition has over two-hundred-thousand signuatures with more to follow a clear messgae is being sent to the US law-makers.

On a lighter note, a gentleman named Mr Sklar has bought President Obama a $10,000 buy-in for a tournament at the WSOP for Friday 3rd July.  If the president were to participate it would symbolise a massive boost for online poker in the legislation battle.  Chris Ferguson doesn’t rate Mr Sklar’s chances of tempting President Obama to the tables and has offered Mr Sklar 25,000-1 on a $40 bet that he doesn’t.
