National Poker Week
National Poker Week is an initiative to raise the profile of both land-based and online poker and change the old stereotypical perception that people have of poker and its players. National Poker Week will also give the Poker Players Alliance the opportunity to take the next step in its ongoing mission to push for the legalisation of online poker in the US. The Poker Players Alliance will send over 30 State Directors and at least 6 professional poker players including; Howard Lederer, Andy Bloch, Annie Duke, Jan Fisher, Linda Johnson and Dennis Phillips to Washington D.C. The Poker Players Alliance representatives will meet with members of congress and lobby for the legalisation and regulation of online poker, claiming that games such as poker, backgammon and mahjongg are games of skill and therefore should be exempt from the UIGEA laws as stated in Barney Frank’s bill. The Poker Players Alliance will also deliver a petition to US President Barak Obama asking for his support to such an exemption and for the licensing and regulation of online poker. 24th June 2009 Back to Poker News Article Last Updated: 26/05/2010 13:33:18 |
