Mike Sexton voted into the Poker Hall of Fame

It has just been announced that the latest poker icon to join players like Doyle Brunson, Jonny Chan and Phil Hellmuth in the Poker Hall of Fame is none other than Party Poker ambassador and the voice of the World Poker Tour, Mike Sexton, who was voted into the Poker Hall of Fame by 15 living Hall of Fame members and 15 media representatives.

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Poker Hall of Fame all of this year’s World Series of Poker’s November Nine were automatically up for nomination for the single-most prestigious honour in world poker, along with many other seasoned poker veterans.  However names such as Phil Ivey, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu and Erik Seidel were overlooked in favour of Sexton.

Over the years Sexton has worked tirelessly to promote poker, often being referred to as the ‘Ambassador of Poker’ for the work that he puts into raising the profile of poker across the world.  As well as being an ambassador for poker Mike Sexton has also a WSOP bracelet to his name and also nearly $4 million in career winnings.  In 2006 Sexton won the World Series of Poker, Tournament of Champions which won him $1 million with the generous poker player giving away half his post tax profits from the tournament to five individual charities.  Sexton has pledged to do the same with any future poker winnings too, further reinforcing his election into 2009’s Poker Hall of Fame.

Earlier this year Sexton became the first professional player to be signed by online poker site Party Poker, to represent them at live poker events and tournaments around the world.  Since Sexton’s arrival at Party Poker’s virtual felt there have been many other high-profile poker professional joining the ranks too.
