High stakes online poker

When us mere mortals think of a game of ‘high stakes’ poker we imagine poker tournaments like the WSOP main event, which has a buy-in of $10,000 or maybe two guys in a casino trading £50 notes at a cash table but when it comes to high stakes online poker a select handful of online poker pros have been rewriting the record books.

In the last 12 months or so a young man from New York has been putting the frighteners on many of the world’s top online poker pros.  Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan has been taking on the very best poker players in the world playing $500/$1,000 No-Limit Texas Holdem and $500/$1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha with much success.  Tom Dwan has quickly become one of the most composed poker players at these nosebleed high stakes, taking big chunks of cash away from legendary poker professionals like Patrik Antonius and Phil Ivey, however there is now a new force taking the online poker cash tables by storm.

A mysterious player who goes by the screen name ‘Isildur1’ has been making inroads into the bankrolls of Dwan and Ivey.  ‘Isildur1’ is, so far, an enigmatic figure which only a few in the professional poker world claim to know the identity of.  The ‘Robin Hood’ of poker, Barry Greenstein has gone on record as saying he knows ‘Islidur1’ personally but still his or her identity remains a mystery.

Recently ‘Islidur1’ has been playing high stakes online poker against Tom Dwan and has made some huge profits in the process.  Just hours after Tom Dwan signed for online poker giant Full Tilt Poker he took on ‘Islidur1’ in the usual cash table format for blinds that you or I would go on holiday with, let alone play a hand of poker with.  During this online poker extravaganza the new pretender to Tom Dwan’s high stakes poker crown made huge inroads into the young New Yorker’s bankroll with some carefully planned successful betting plays.  Over the night ‘Islidur1’ managed to win over $3 million from Dwan but such poker highs are bound to be met by equal poker lows. 

And it was these lows that ‘Islidur1’ hit when he came up against 7-times WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey.  On Friday night ‘Islidu1’ and Ivey went head-to-head playing $500/$1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha and No-Limit Holdem and by the end of the night Ivey took over $1.5 million away from the new high stakes poker threat.
