Another major poker win for Barry Shulman

Barry ShulmanIn the early hours of this morning at the Empire Casino in London one poker player beat of fierce competition from the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier and James Akenhead, making it another major poker win for Barry Shulman.  The win saw poker veteran Shulman walk away with a WSOPE bracelet and also £801,603.

Barry Shulman is no stranger to final tables in high-profile live poker events.  Back in 2001 Barry won the World Series of Poker seven-card stud event and he has now earned over $1.6 million from live tournaments.  Shulman moved to Vegas to improve his game and become a top poker professional which paid dividends in 2001.  Since then he confesses to not playing all that hard since with his attentions focussing on CardPlayer magazine which he bought shortly after his WSOP win.  He is also the Father of WSOP November Nine member Jeff Shulman.

The play at the final table was very aggressive on Negreanu’s behalf.  The Canadian poker player took out UK poker player James Akenhead, followed by Antoine Saout, Chris Bjorin, Markus Ristola, Jason Mercier and Praz Bansi before facing Shulman heads-up.  On what seemed like an unstoppable rampage when Negreanu’s pocket rockets faced Shulman’s flush draw.  Shulman hit the flush to leave PokerStars pro in bad shape but the ever-threatening Negreanu managed to pull his way back into the game.  The poker tournament was effectively over when this time Shulman was holding A,A and Negreanu holding Q,J with a jack-high flop.  A second jack comes on the turn but was cancelled out when Shulman hit an ace on the river making him the full house.  The poker game was over just a few hands later when Negreanu moved all-in with 4,4 only to see Shulman holding 10,10 which stood up.

This year’s WSOPE main event will remain long in the memory for years to come.  If you fancy your chances of playing in major live poker tournaments sitting alongside some of the biggest names in poker you can do so by qualifying for these poker tournaments playing online poker.  Check out our poker news section to see the latest live poker tournament packages to be won.
