All four poker heist robbers have been arrested

At the beginning of the month a daring, if a little stupid, robbery took place during the WPT – Berlin poker tournament at the Hyatt Hotel in Berlin, Germany during which four armed men attempted to get away with the €1 million prize pool but less than three weeks later all four poker heist robbers have been arrested with a fifth man, who is believed to be the mastermind of the robbery, also behind bars.

At the beginning of the month UK Poker brought you the news that four armed men robbed a poker tournament in Germany, getting away with hundreds of thousands of dollars but in recent weeks the police have been hot on the trail of these bungling thieves.  The Berlin Police started making their arrests on the 17th of March when one of the robbers handed himself in to authorities.  From that point on police were confident of rounding up the other four poker robbers as they had the names and photos of the assailants.  The following day, Ahmad al-Awayti turned himself in, then Mustafa Ucarkus was arrested a few days later.  A fourth suspect, Jihad Chetwie, was arrested upon his return from Beirut and the fifth gang member, a 28-year-old Lebanese citizen, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the robbery at the PokerStars sponsored tournament, was also arrested.

This isn’t the first time that a poker tournament has been robbed but due to the fact that the heist was caught on camera and appeared on YouTube within hours it has been one of the most publicised in recent poker history.  UK Poker will keep you up-to-date with this poker news story as further details are released.
